Wisden CricInfo staff - March 6, 2002

CAPE TOWN (Reuters)
Mark Boucher has been confirmed as South Africa's captain for the second Test against Australia which begins at Cape Town on Friday. Boucher, SA's wicketkeeper and regular vice-ceptain, stood in for the injured Shaun Pollock in the first Test at Johannesburg, which South Africa lost by an innings and 360 runs.

Pollock pulled out of the side on Tuesday evening after failing to recover sufficiently from a side strain that threatens to keep him out of the third Test (Durban, March 15-19) as well.

Neil McKenzie was named as vice-captain, while Laden Gamiet, a 24-year-old batsman from Border, will perform the 12th-man duties.

Daryll Cullinan had been expected to return after almost a year out of the Test side, but walked out over a contract dispute. Graeme Smith of Western Province will make his Test debut in Cullinan's place.

South African team
1 Gary Kirsten, 2 Herschelle Gibbs, 3 Jacques Kallis, 4 Graeme Smith, 5 Neil McKenzie, 6 Ashwell Prince, 7 Mark Boucher (capt and wk), 8 Andrew Hall, 9 Paul Adams, 10 Makhaya Ntini, 11 Dewald Pretorius. 12th man: Laden Gamiet.
