Mohammedan wins Habibul Bashar Shahryar Khan - 19 March 2002
Mohammedan Sporting Club, the champions of the last year Premier League, has included Habibul Bashar in their middle order for this year. Bashar, the best batsman so far regarding his performance, quit his former club Bangladesh Biman after spending six long years there. Bashar says, " Actually I was seeking for a change. Besides, if I play for Mohammedan I would have to play under pressure, as it is a big club and it has huge supporters. The expectations are high. They always look forward to see the player at his best. I want this pressure and this expectation. It will boost me up." Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) has pulled off with Bashar without a shred of doubt and they have formed the strongest camp consequently. Wicket keeper Anwar Hossain, the second best in the country plays for Bangladesh-A, shores up a reliable stance behind the stumps too. Opener Ehsanul Haque Seezan, another one from Bangladesh-A, who didn't do badly in West Indies, signed up for MSC also. On the other hand, Abahani Club, the archrivals of MSC, is facing another scarcity to take in renowned players in their camp. Azam Iqbal, who captained the team last year, quit the club. Anwar Hossain Monir, the right arm pacer from Bangladesh-A, joined in to operate the new ball with Iqbal Hossain. Brothers Union Club, after a wretched last year, has built up a good side this year including left-arm seamer Morshed Ali Khan, Harun-Ur-Rashid, the opener, Sajjadul Hasan, Mostadir Litu and lastly Athar Ali. Athar Ali is still a high-quality batsman at 39! He batted superbly in the last year playing for Bangladesh Biman and hopes to go on with the bat well for Brothers too. © CricInfo
