We're here as ambassadors
Wisden CricInfo staff - June 28, 2002

In the third and final part of his Lord's press conference, Sachin Tendulkar talks about how India will be looking to change their appalling overseas Test record and says that even though the series in England will not be easy, India will play it in the right spirit. India's recent victory against the West Indies in Trinidad, their first Test win in the Caribbean for 26 years, has given the squad an extra determination to get over their homesickness. "We hope to turn the tables now we've won a Test outside India," said Tendulkar. "We are looking to put on a good show."

Tendulkar hinted at the area where India may struggle to win the series, saying that although scoring enough runs will be vital, dismissing England twice in each Test may be a wicket too far for India's inexperienced bowlers. "It's not easy to get 20 wickets in a Test and we know it's going to be tough."

Even though Tendulkar and Nasser Hussain had a few choice words to say last winter, Tendulkar insisted his team will play in the right spirit. "We're here as ambassadors for India and it would be nice to be remembered 20 years later as part of an Indian team who played the game the right way," he said, much to the relief of the match referee.

Away from cricket, Tendulkar revealed his interest in tennis and Formula One over the football World Cup and said he'd love to take a trip to Wimbledon to watch Pete Sampras, whom he tipped for the trophy. I'd concentrate on the cricket, Sachin.
