Darren Powell is powerfully built and bowls at a lively pace with good control. In 2001-02, his first full season, he took 25 wickets at 20.20 as Jamaica clinched the Busta Cup title. He was selected to play for the Busta XI against the touring Indians, and, as injuries and fatigue took their toll towards the end of a long season, he was recalled from the West Indies A tour of England to make his debut in the first Test against New Zealand in June.
