Otago Cricket provides big carrot for its backers
4 June 2002

Sponsors of Otago Cricket will be honing their golfing skills over the winter as they contemplate the opportunity to win a $40,000-plus car in a sponsors-only tournament in November.

A brand new Mazda 6, soon to be launched internationally, will be on offer as a hole-in-one prize on the challenging fourth hole at the St Clair course in the Anngow Motors $50,000 Golf Classic, the tournament being put together exclusively for Otago Cricket's sponsors.

Otago Cricket's Events and Fund Raising manager Steve Davie said the classic was the perfect way to welcome sponsors to the new season.

"We wanted to do something a little bit different for our sponsors," Davie said.

"There is plenty to be excited about in the game here with the re-development of the University Oval and the return of Jeff Wilson having people buzzing already.

"Our sponsors are our life-blood and this tournament is exclusively for them."

Otago Cricket has strengthened its relationship with Anngow Motors which will supply the Mazda 6 with the final decision over whether a sedan or sports model is offered yet to be made.

"We're all hoping the Mazda 6 will be won. If an ace isn't recorded the closest to the pin on the fourth will still win $1,000 cash," Davie said.

All of Otago Cricket's sponsors will be invited to the tournament - to be played on Friday, November 15 - with their entry numbers dependent on their level of support. Prizes totalling more than $50,000 will be on offer.

Those sponsoring the individual holes will also have entry rights.
