Chaminda Vaas and Nuwan Zoysa were surprising omissions from the Sri Lankan squad picked to play Bangladesh in the first Test, which starts on Sunday. Sanath Jayasuriya retains the captaincy and the rest of the team that did so poorly in England have been given chances to prove their worth. Vaas and Zoysa performed well below expectations in England, though the official line is that they have been rested for sterner tests that lie ahead. The replacements are both uncapped, left-arm fast bowler Sujeeva De Silva and right-arm medium pacer Hasantha Fernando. Both played against Bangladesh in two warm-up matches.
