Sir Garry Sobers interview

Nawab of Pataudi interview

Sir Garry Sobers and the Nawab of Pataudi Jr are old adversaries. They captained West Indies and India with distinction, but while Sir Garry remains the greatest allrounder the game has seen, the Nawab of Pataudi is not as well known.

He became captain of India in 1962, and might have been recognised as the greatest batsman India has produced had he not lost the sight in one eye after a road accident. Before then, he was averaging 55, but that average ultimately drifted into the thirties.

The Nawab of Pataudi also promoted the idea of bowling four spinners in tandem, a unique approach that is unlikely to be seen again. In the run up to the Wisden Indian Cricketer of the Century awards. on July 23, the Knight (Sir Garry) and the Prince (Pataudi) talk about some of the great players they played with and against.
