Style and flamboyance
Wisden CricInfo staff - July 17, 2002

With the Indian Cricketer of the Century Awards coming up on July 23, Wisden Online have been asking players for their opinions and memories about Indian cricketers. Today it's the turn of former West Indian batsman Seymour Nurse to share his thoughts on Indians he played against.

Nurse picked out Bhagwat Chandrasekhar for his quick and bouncy bowling. Chandra's pace was deceptive, as Charlie Griffith found out when he was hit by a bouncer.

Of the batsmen, Nurse mentioned the Nawab of Pataudi junior as a typically classy performer, in an era where style and flamboyance was a feature of India's batting, even more than usual. According to Nurse, only Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman of today's team come close to the class and grace of the earlier players.
