Yuvraj might return home
Wisden CricInfo staff - July 15, 2002

A chipped bone in the little finger of his right hand has rendered Yuvraj Singh hors de combat, and means that he might return home instead of staying on for the Test series. The Indian media manager on tour, Amrit Mathur, couldn't confirm if Yuvraj sustained the injury while batting or fielding, but said it had ruled him out for three weeks. Yuvraj was in sterling form throughout the NatWest Series, scoring 254 runs at 50.80. It was believed that Yuvraj and Mohammad Kaif – the heroes of India's spectacular triumph in Saturday's finals – would be asked to stay back by the national selectors when they meet in Kolkata on Tuesday to discuss the ramifications of the performance of the one-day team.

In spite of the Indian Test squad being laden with middle-order batsmen – even Virender Sehwag will probably miss out in the Tests at the expense of VVS Laxman – Kaif will most likely remain with the squad for the Tests. He is unlikely to play the Tests, but should get enough opportunities in the side games – India play two warm-up matches before the first Test, and one between each of the subsequent Tests. The first of those tour games starts on Wednesday, when India play West Indies `A' at Arundel.
