All clear Wisden CricInfo staff - July 7, 2002
Ruchira Perera has had his action cleared and been given the green light to resume bowling after making some slight adjustments to his action. Perera's action was reported by the umpires after the first Test between Sri Lanka and England at Lord's in May. Although under International Cricket Council regulations Perera could have played in the remainder of the series, he was dropped for the second and third Tests and immediately started remedial work under the close scrutiny of a three-man panel appointed by the Sri Lankan board. That panel submitted a report at the end of last week. It acknowledged that there was a problem, but gave assurances that it had been ironed out. "When we studied the footage, which the ICC had given us, there was an obvious problem and we rectified that with Ruchira," said a statement. The panel pointed out that Perera's suspect action had not been allowed to develop unchecked, but that it arose after he modified his action earlier in the year. Perera is now expected to play in the forthcoming series against Bangladesh.
