†INDIA v AUSTRALIA 2000-01
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 2002

At Bangalore, March 25 (day/night). India won by 60 runs. Toss: India. Having ended Australia's 16-Test winning streak, India now halted a run of ten one-day victories. Tendulkar set them off with a furious onslaught; Australia were fortunate that a run-out spared them further punishment after he hit six fours and a six in 26 balls. Laxman and local hero Dravid, whose 84-ball 80 lasted into the 44th over, reproduced their Test form, and there were rapid half-centuries from all-rounder Shewag, who later bowled his off-spin to winning advantage, and wicket-keeper Dahiya. Even so, India's 315 was not overwhelming, given a good pitch and a quick outfield. Australia's hopes were raised by a partnership of 110 spanning 17.3 overs between Hayden, who scored 99 off 90 balls with seven fours and a six, and Bevan. Once Bevan went, however, pulling at a short ball, the challenge petered out.

Man of the Match: V. Shewag.
