Australia v Zimbabwe 12th ODI 2000-2001
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 2002

At Perth, February 4. Australia won by one run.
Toss: Australia.
A dead fixture turned into a thriller when Zimbabwe almost overhauled Australia's 302. With 15 needed from McGrath's final over, Marillier hit 11 off the first four balls; after a single from Viljoen, however, he managed only one run off the last. Had it not been for a short run during Carlisle's stand of 187 with Grant Flower – an all-wicket limited-overs record for Zimbabwe – the match could have been tied. Carlisle, dropped by Steve Waugh in the gully when one, hit 11 fours and a six, finally going for 119 in the 48th over. Earlier, Martyn had batted through Australia's innings for 144 from 149 balls, including 12 fours, while Harvey hit 24 (66624) in one over from Viljoen before being caught in the deep off the sixth ball. Streak became the first to take 150 one-day wickets for Zimbabwe when he bowled Lee; he could have had little idea at the time how close his team would come to stealing victory.

Man of the Match: D. R. Martyn.
Attendance: 20,143.
