On Australia Day, Steve Waugh returned from injury to lead his country to their first ten-wicket victory in 30 years of one-day internationals. For the second time in a week, West Indies' lowest limited-overs total was under threat, despite easier batting conditions than at Sydney. From six overs they were ten for four after Lee and Fleming had scythed through the top order (Lara went first ball); from 26, they were 82 for nine, still five short of their all-time low. McLean, once more, and Cuffy salvaged some honour with a last-wicket stand of 41 – as much as the first six wickets managed between them. Lehmann and his new opening partner, Martyn, won the game before the floodlights were switched on. The winning boundary lifted Lehmann's aggregate in this tournament to 161 runs in three unbeaten innings.
