Australia v Zimbabwe 5th ODI 2000-2001
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 2002

At Melbourne, January 21 (day/night). Australia won by eight wickets.
Toss: Zimbabwe.
International debut: S. M. Katich.
Australia's first meeting with Zimbabwe in this tournament was a virtual walkover, for they won with 13 overs in hand. The Zimbabwean openers did make a bold start, plundering Lee for 35 as they raised 50 in eight overs, but Harvey broke through with his first delivery and went on to claim three more wickets. For Australia, Gilchrist, still acting-captain in Steve Waugh's absence, charged to 39 in 29 balls, while Lehmann, promoted to open as Mark Waugh was rested, seized his chance and hit an unbeaten 92 from 104 balls. He added 144 in 25 overs with Ponting, and new cap Simon Katich never had a chance to bat.

Man of the Match: D. S. Lehmann.
Attendance: 43,033.
