Australia v West Indies 2000-2001
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 2002

At Brisbane, January 14 (day/night). Australia won by nine wickets.
Toss: West Indies.
Acting-captain Gilchrist and Mark Waugh took Australia most of the way home with an opening stand of 206 in 39 overs. Only Geoff Marsh and David Boon, with 212 against India at Jaipur in 1986-87, had put on more for Australia's first wicket in a one-day game. Waugh advanced to his 15th hundred at this level, hitting seven fours in 128 balls as they won with more than six overs in hand. Gilchrist, leading his country for the second time in the summer, because Steve Waugh had a groin strain, made his 150th dismissal in one-day internationals when he caught Campbell in the first over of the match. He himself could have gone in the first over of Australia's reply, but Hinds, West Indies' top-scorer with 54 (two sixes, four fours), dropped the chance at mid-on.

Man of the Match: M. E. Waugh.
Attendance: 35,168.
