Australia v West Indies 2000-2001
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 2002

At Melbourne, January 11 (day/night). Australia won by 74 runs.
Toss: Australia.
International debut: N. W. Bracken.
Australia were irresistible from the moment that Steve Waugh – the third player to appear in 300 one-day internationals, after Mohammad Azharuddin and Wasim Akram – won the toss. His brother, Mark, and Ponting batted fluently, adding 111 at five an over as temperatures topped 40 degrees Centigrade. In West Indies' reply, McGrath conceded a miserly seven in his six overs, and debutant left-armer Nathan Bracken removed Campbell with his 16th ball. Samuels hit his maiden fifty in limited-overs internationals, then one of three wickets seized by Symonds in one over, two caught and bowled. Adams halted the slide, but never threatened the distant target. Warne's return after injury was notable only for a police warning when he kicked some tennis balls back into a rowdy crowd. He was told this could incite the spectators further; as it was, there were 34 arrests.

Man of the Match: R. T. Ponting.
Attendance: 56,732.
