Lehmann in for one-dayers too Wisden CricInfo staff - January 31, 2002
The good news just keeps on coming for Darren Lehmann. Only a day after being named in the Test squad to tour South Africa, he has also been recalled to the one-day side for the triangular VB Series. Lehmann replaces Andrew Symonds in the 12-man squad for Australia's final round-robin match against South Africa at Perth on Sunday. "The make-up of the side is there are seven batters, I'd say only six will play, so I just have to wait and see what happens," Lehmann said. "But it's a good opportunity for me to be part of the squad, obviously leading into the finals and before South Africa. "It's been a good week but it can easily change as well, so you've just got to ride the highs, stay pretty level-headed all the way through it and keep working hard," he added. Greg Chappell welcomed Lehmann's recall and said he should not be restricted to 12th-man duties. "It's probably overdue in a lot of ways, his form's been very good for a long time," said Chappell, Lehmann's coach with South Australia. "How they're quite going to fit him into the side I'm not sure, but I hope he gets the chance." Australia's uncharacteristically sketchy showing in the VB Series has shone the spotlight on some underperforming batsmen, specifically Mark Waugh. The selectors could send Damien Martyn in to open in place of Waugh, leaving the No. 4 berth free for Lehmann.
