Crawley 'no longer a Lancashire player' Wisden CricInfo staff - January 31, 2002
John Crawley has said that he will not play for Lancashire again, even though he has two years left to run on his contract. Crawley had a public falling-out with the Lancashire committee last autumn after he was replaced as captain by Warren Hegg. At the time he said, "I have resigned from my contract - as far as I am concerned I am no longer a Lancashire player." But after talks with the club the situation seemed to have been resolved. Reports over the winter linked Crawley with Hampshire, and according to today's Times newspaper he has signed a three-year deal with them. The report added that although Lancashire still insisted that Crawley would remain at Old Trafford, he claimed to haves been told by Mike Watkinson, the county's coach, not to attend any training sessions. Crawley played the last of his 29 Tests for England in 1999.
