The Australian Wisden Wisden CricInfo staff - January 28, 2002
The fourth edition of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack Australia was published by Hardie Grant Books, under licence from John Wisden & Co., in October 2001. The "green Wisden" has a new executive editor, the Australian cricket writer Warwick Franks. Wisden Australia contains fitting tributes to Sir Donald Bradman, the greatest batsman of them all, who died last February. Richie Benaud's eulogy at The Don's memorial service is reprinted, alongside an obituary by Philip Derriman and a statistical tribute to "Cricket's Superman" by Charles Davis. The other essays include Martin Rogers on the rise of Queensland cricket and Tony Wilson on the amazing events of Australia's tour of India, while David Frith looks back on half-a-century's cricket-watching. Glenn McGrath is Wisden Australia's Test Cricketer of the Year, while Jamie Cox, Tasmania's captain, gets the vote as Pura Cup Cricketer of the Year. There's also all the records you'd expect of Wisden - full details of all important cricket played in Australia in 2000-01, including the 5-0 whitewash of West Indies, further coverage of that remarkable tour of India, and also a rundown on the 2001 Ashes series. There are profiles of all Australia's state players, and a comprehensive records section.
