Ganguly not missed
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 25, 2002

  • Opening together for the first time in an international match, Sachin Tendulkar and his lookalike Virender Sehwag added 107, the highest opening stand of the series so far. The previous-best was 78, between Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly in the first match at Calcutta. Sehwag has opened six times in ODIs before, when his partners were Ganguly (4), Amay Khurasiya (1) and Deep Dasgupta (1).
  • Ben Hollioake and Jeremy Snape's partnership was a record for the seventh wicket in one-day internationals at Chennai. It passes the previous-best, 30 by Anil Kumble and Nayan Mongia against West Indies in 1994-95. This is the eighth one-dayer on this ground.

  • Snape made 38, his highest one-day score, surpassing his 24 not out in the third one-dayer against Zimbabwe at Harare in October 2001. He is playing in his seventh match.

  • Sanjay Bangar dismissed Nasser Hussain with his second ball in one-day internationals. This is his one-day debut and his first international wicket - he played in the first Test against England at Mohali, but did not take a wicket.

  • Andrew Flintoff made 8, continuing his poor run with the bat this winter. In eight international innings he has made 63 runs at an average of 7.88. His run of scores reads: 18, 4, 0, 4, 0, 24, 5 and 8.

  • Kumble was captaining India for the first time in 284 international matches. This was his 218th one-dayer, and he has also played 66 Tests.

  • Hussain won the toss for the first time in 10 one-day internationals. The last time he won the toss was against South Africa in the quarter-finals of the ICC KnockOut Trophy at Nairobi in October 2000.
