Of 36 one-day internationals between these sides, India have won 16 and England 19, with one no-result.
Sixteen matches have been played in India, including a 3-3 draw in 1992-93, when the sides last met here. India have won seven and England nine.
Only 12 of the 36 one-dayers between the sides have been won by the side batting first, although the last four, going back to Sharjah in 1997-98, have been won in such circumstances.
Of the 16 matches they have won against England, India won the toss on 13 occasions.
The top-scorer in one-dayers between these sides is Mohammad Azharuddin, who has 911 runs at an average of 65. The next highest is Allan Lamb, with 556 at over 50.
The most prolific runscorer among current players is Sachin Tendulkar, with 384 runs at a surprisingly low average of 29.54, with only two fifties in 14 innings. It is his lowest one-day average against any country. His run of scores against England is: 19, 31, 35, 82, 1, 3, 24, 5, 34, 30, 6, 1, 91 and 22.
Tendulkar has never been dismissed by an English spinner in one-dayers. Paul Jarvis and Chris Lewis are his English one-day nemeses - both have dismissed him twice.
The top wicket-taker is Kapil Dev, with 28 victims at 28, while Javagal Srinath has 26 at 21. England's top wicket-taker in these matches is Jarvis, with 15 scalps at less than 17.
Jarvis took 5 for 35 at Bangalore in 1992-93, one of only two five-fors in these matches. The other was 5 for 41 by Srinath - in the same match.
There have been 13 centuries in India-England one-dayers. Dennis Amiss (137) and Navjot Sidhu (134) are the highest; Robin Smith is the only man to make two hundreds.
England have won their last five one-dayers, all against Zimbabwe, before which they lost 11 in a row, to Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia.
Ten of England's last 12 one-day victories overseas have come when they have batted second.
Only three of the England party have played an ODI in India: Graham Thorpe and Darren Gough both played against New Zealand at Ahmedabad in the opening match of the 1996 World Cup. The other is Nasser Hussain, who made his one-day international debut against Pakistan at Nagpur in the Nehru Cup - over 12 years ago.
Sourav Ganguly averages less than 25 in one-dayers against England. He averages 40 or more against every country except England and Australia (just over 23).
In India's last 20 one-dayers at home, the team batting first has exceeded 300 on eight occasions. That's a 300-plus total every 2.5 games - in the 1786-match history of ODIs, the rate is one every 16 games.
England's squad share 247 one-day wickets, less than Anil Kumble (281) and Srinath (268) have taken on their own. Only two Englishmen - Gough (147) and Caddick (45) - have more than 13. Without Gough England boast 94 wickets; Tendulkar alone has 103.
Going back to the series in New Zealand in 1996-97, England have won the first match in nine out of 12 one-day series overseas. But they have only ended up winning three of those series: Sharjah in 1997-98, and two wins over Zimbabwe (1999-2000 and 2001-02).
