Women's Test: Time running out for England
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 16, 2002

Close India Women 95 for 1 (Jain 35*, Chopra 23*) trail England Women (314 all out) by 219 runs After yesterday's record-breaking feats, the night brought rain in Lucknow, ensuring a late start to the third day of the Test match. Good news for bathers taking their morning dip in the Ganges at the nearby holy city of Varanasi, but bad news for England's cricketers.

No play was possible until 3pm and only 36.1 overs were bowled. India's batsmen made steady progress, taking their score of 21 for no wicket overnight to 95 for 1. The only wicket to fall was that of Amrita Shinde, who was bowled for 29 by Lucy Pearson.

Tomorrow is the fourth and final day of the one-off Test. Only collusion between the captains, or two Indian batting collapses, will prevent the match petering out into a draw.
