One innings is ample
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 16, 2002
Bangladesh fell to their tenth defeat in 11 Tests, seven of them by an innings. Their only draw came in a rain-affected match against Zimbabwe at Dhaka in November 2001.
Younis Khan, playing in his 16th match, made 110, his fourth Test century and his third overseas, while Yousuf Youhana, playing in his 35th match, scored 204 not out, his eighth Test hundred. It was his second double-century, following the 203 he made against New Zealand at Christchurch in 2000-01.
Youhana's was his second century in three innings against Bangladesh, his figures spoilt only by a run-out for 72 in the first Test at Dhaka. He has now made 378 runs against them at an average of ... 378.
Fahim Muntasir took 3 for 131, his first Test wickets in his second match. His maiden Test wicket was Inzamam-ul-Haq. Muntasir took 0 for 109 in the first Test of the series at Dhaka.
Mohammad Sharif took 4 for 98, his best figures in Tests. He was playing in his eighth match.
Six different Pakistani batsmen have scored eight centuries between them in just three innings against Bangladesh. The full list is Saeed Anwar, Taufeeq Umar, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Yousuf Youhana (2), Abdur Razzaq (2) and Younis Khan.
Pakistan have lost just 21 wickets in their three Tests against Bangladesh, and have yet to be bowled out. Bangladesh, however, have been dismissed for successive scores of 134, 148, 160, 152, 148 and 148, and only Habibul Bashar (53 at Dhaka, 56* at Multan, and 51 today) has managed to reach a half-century.
Saqlain Mushtaq took 5 for 35, his 12th five-wicket haul in 37 Tests, but his first since November 2000, when he took all eight wickets (for 164 runs) in England's first innings at Lahore.
Danish Kaneria picked up his 25th wicket in just five innings against Bangladesh. He made his debut against England in 2000-01, and has 29 Test wickets in total.
Bangladesh scored less than 150 for the tenth time in 21 completed Test innings. After scoring 400 in their inaugural Test innings against India in November 2000, they have passed 300 on just two occasions.
Bangladesh have averaged just 174 in the first innings of the ten Tests they have played since that inaugural fixture. By contrast, their opponents, on average, have amassed 461 for 8 in reply.
