Lamb urges Hussain to reconsider Wisden CricInfo staff - January 2, 2002
The England and Wales Cricket Board chief executive, Tim Lamb, has said that he will be talking to Nasser Hussain in an attempt to get him to reconsider his decision to quit the captaincy after the 2003 World Cup. Hussain told the Sun newspaper at the weekend that he would step down after the tournament, but Lamb reacted with surprise at the news, saying it was the first he had heard of it. "Although I've heard about the quote he has made, that he's thinking of stepping down, I very much hope he'll continue for a while yet," Lamb said. "I think it would be a shame if he did retire after the World Cup. He's made a terrific impact since he took over, and I think we just need to sit down and discuss the situation with him. "I think Nasser and Duncan Fletcher have started to forge a really good working relationship and I very much hope that relationship will continue."
