West Indies v Zimbabwe 2000-01
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 2002
At Adelaide, January 25 (day/night). West Indies won by 77 runs (D/L method). Toss: West Indies. West Indies recovered swiftly from their humiliation at Sydney. After their third opening pair in six games had failed, Samuels struck 68, his highest international score yet, and Lara 70 as they put on 133 for the third wicket. They benefited from three lives between them. The innings was in full flow when rain deprived the later batsmen of the last three overs, and Zimbabwe's target was raised to 253. This looked possible while the Flower brothers were adding 90, but then Andy Flower, having just become the first to score 5,000 one-day international runs for Zimbabwe, was dismissed quite spectacularly. Nagamootoo leapt high to his left to catch him off his own bowling, and Nagamootoo claimed three more wickets in eight balls as Zimbabwe's challenge disintegrated.
Man of the Match: M. N. Samuels. Attendance: 6,878.
