Auckland and Wellington pick up points in women's league Lynn McConnell - 21 January 2002
Wellington and Auckland got more points on the board in the State League today. In good conditions at Waikanae, Auckland batted first and scored 218/6 against Central Districts. Rebecca Rolls scored 34 off 40 balls but it was a fifth wicket partnership of 115 off 170 balls between Helen Watson and former international Kelly Brown that gave the innings real impetus. Watson scored 42 off 108 balls and Brown scored 66 off 90 balls with two sixes in her innings. Kate Pulford was the most successful of the CD bowlers, taking two for 40 off seven overs. CD's response was disappointing with the side scoring only 75 off 32.5 overs. The highest score was 12, achieved by Cindy Forsyth, Megan Graham and Aimee Mason. Debbie Ramsay took three for 22 off her 10 overs while Paula Gruber took two for nine. At Kelburn Park in Wellington, the home team asked Northern Districts to bat first and had them out for 88 off 43.3 overs. Anna Soma scored 25 runs and Anna Wilkins 16. Anna Corbin toook four for 18 off 10 overs. Wellington replied with 89/2 in 33 overs. Anna O'Leary scored 34 not out off 104 balls while Maia Lewis scored 25 off 53.
