ICC set to appoint Anti Corruption Co-ordinator and Security Managers
ICC Media Release - 8 January 2002
In moves which go beyond the recommendations of Lord Condon's report into corruption in cricket, the ICC has advertised for the positions of Anti Corruption Co-ordinator and five security managers. This is the latest step of the ICC's campaign to rid cricket of corruption,
The Anti Corruption Co-ordinator will co-ordinate and manage the ongoing implementation of the ICC's initiatives to eliminate corrupt practices from the game.
Commenting on this announcement, ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed said: "Whilst this position is not required by the Condon Report, we believe it is an important one to provide focus and momentum for our on-going fight against corruption".
The Security Managers will work in conjunction with the ICC Anti Corruption Unit and will have a presence at all international matches played by Full Member countries of the ICC. They will be appointed on a regional basis and each will have a primary focus on two of the ICC's Full Member countries.
It is proposed to appoint one Security Manager to work with each of the following cricket countries on a regional basis:
- England and West Indies
- Bangladesh and Pakistan
- India and Sri Lanka
- South Africa and Zimbabwe
- Australia and New Zealand
"Lord Condon recommended that security managers should be appointed by
individual countries", said Malcolm Speed. "However, as a demonstration of the ICC's commitment to anti corruption measures, to ensure consistency and to reduce the financial impact on individual boards, we decided it was right for the ICC to employ these people.
"Both the Anti Corruption Co-ordinator and the Security Managers will play vital roles in making sure cricket is clean in future, and we hope to make these appointments as speedily as possible".
