Tourists dominate day-1
Shahryar Khan - 5 January 2002

Swashbuckling centuries from Younis Khan and Yousuf Youhana put the touring Pakistan team in a very comfortable position as they amassed 312 runs for the loss of only three wickets to declare their innings.

Bangladesh-A won the toss and elected to field first against a reputable Pakistan batting line-up. After some early success brought by Talha Jubair, Bangladeshis started loosing the initial control over their opponents when burly Inzaman-ul-Haq came on to the crease.

Pakistan had a very cautious approach at the beginning and lost two early wickets within over twelve. The promising Talha Jubair removed both Shahdab Kabir and Taufiq Umar. Left-handed Shahdab had an edge to keeper Anwar off Talha for 11 that include 2 fours. Talha clean bowled Taufiq Umar after 13 deliveries.

Inzaman-ul-Haq and Younis Khan batted watchfully for few overs and was taking the control slowly. Inzamam made 52 before Enamul Haque trapped him lbw. The robust right-hander hammered 9 fours and 2 sixes to reach this. He was pretty disappointed to Umpires decision as he surmised the ball was going far over his leg-stump.

Then it was stylish Youhana and dependable Younis Khan to steal the rest of the day. Both batted treated the local bowlers quite easily and often took the chance of the loose ball to clear the fence. They allowed no Bangladeshi bowlers to dominate anymore. Younis Khan reached his hundred first though his partner was scoring more quickly. He slammed 13 boundaries throughout his unbeaten 112.

Yousuf caught up with him soon and reached the three-figure landmark with a thunderous applause all around him. He whacked the ball all around to carry off his hundred that took only 137 balls and included 10 fours and a solitary six. Pakistan declared at 312 for 3 leaving an hour to bat for the local boys.

Mehrab Hossain and Hannan Sarkar passed the remains of the day peacefully without going for any sort of risky venture. A huge crowd gathered around the BKSP ground to watch the formidable Paki bowling attack in action. At the end of the day A-team managed 38 runs without loss from their sluggish approach towards the tourist pace attack.
