Bangar and Tendulkar cut loose
Wisden CricInfo staff - February 23, 2002
Sanjay Bangar, 29, playing his second Test, hit two sixes and 12 fours in his 155-ball maiden century.
Sachin Tendulkar and Bangar added 171 runs, India's highest sixth-wicket partnership against Zimbabwe in eight Tests, surpassing the previous best of 96 between Kapil Dev and Sanajay Manjrekar at Harare in 1992-93.
Tendulkar made his 28th Test century, moving him above Allan Border and Steve Waugh to third on the alltime list. Only Don Bradman (29) and Sunil Gavaskar (34) have made more.
Tendulkar has has now made at least one century in 21 of the 28 series of two Tests or more in which he has played. The seven series in which he did not reach three figures, include his first two - against Pakistan and New Zealand in 1989-90 - when he was only 16.
Zimbabwe offspinner Ray Price took his second five-wicket haul in Tests. His figures of 5 for 182 included the wickets of Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar.
Shiv Sunder Das made 105, his second hundred in his 17th Test. His other century was 110 in 2000-01 ... also against Zimbabwe, and also at Nagpur.
Zimbabwe's captain Stuart Carlisle made 77, his highest score in his 26th Test. His previous-best was 64, in Zimbabwe's last Test, against Sri Lanka at Galle in January.
