Wisden CricInfo staff - February 6, 2002
Makhaya Ntini took 5 for 31, his best figures in his 39th one-day international. It was his second five-for - he also took 5 for 37 against Sri Lanka at Cape Town in 2000-01.
South Africa's victory made it 13 in their last 14 completed one-dayers against New Zealand, dating back to 1998-99.
Jacques Kallis has made 163 runs since he was last dismissed in an ODI - he also made 104 not out against Australia at Perth on Sunday.
Kallis and Boeta Dippenaar added an unbroken 139, a record for South Africa's third wicket in 33 ODIs against New Zealand. The previous-best was 112, between Kallis and Gary Kirsten at Auckland in 1998-99.
Kallis and Dippenaar also equalled the third-wicket record in one-dayers at the MCG: Javed Miandad and Imran Khan added 139, for Pakistan against England in the 1992 World Cup final. This was the 112th one-dayer at Melbourne.
