Shaun Pollock hit 27 off one over from James Franklin, a record in a one-day international in Australia. Two men had managed 26: Rod Marsh off Lance Cairns for Australia v New Zealand at Adelaide in 1980-81, and Ian Botham off Simon Davis for England v Australia at Perth in 1986-87. The overall ODI record is 30 in an over by Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka – twice.
Jonty Rhodes's hundred was only his second in 217 ODIs. The other one was 121 against Pakistan in Nairobi in 1996-97.
Rhodes's partnership of 138 with Mark Boucher was a South African record in ODIs against New Zealand – beating their own record of 106, set at Cape Town in 2000-01.
