The Biggie
Wisden CricInfo staff - December 30, 2002

It could have been a childhood innings on the dusty streets of Multan for Inzamam-ul-Haq, such was his contempt for New Zealand's bowlers, fresh-faced legspinner Brooke Walker in particular. When he wasn't pushing singles and jogging to the other end at will, he was swatting Walker, almost half his size, towards and over the vast Gaddafi Stadium boundaries. Inzamam's only moment of fallibility came on 110 when Lou Vincent missed a one-handed diving chance. Two-hundred and six of his 329 runs came in boundaries and sixes in an almost 10-hour effort against a New Zealand attack missing Chris Cairns, Shane Bond, Dion Nash and Shayne O'Connor. But Inzamam needed every boundary because he virtually had to be carried off when cramp took over and every run was a struggle. In the sweltering Lahore heat, the big man began to stagger in pain. Mercifully, he found enough energy to break to make a sharp sprint for a single on 299 - and a smile replaced the grimace. Mark Geenty
