Kenya bundled to heavy defeat Wisden CricInfo staff - December 14, 2002
Zimbabwe 136 for 1 (Vermeulen 62*, Blignaut 63*) beat Kenya 133 (Olonga 6-28) by nine wickets, with 34 overs to spare Kenya slumped to a crushing nine-wicket defeat in the third and final one-day international against Zimbabwe at Harare, after losing their last seven wickets for 28 runs - including six in a row to an inspired Henry Olonga. Olonga now has two of the best returns in one-day history. In 1999-2000, he stunned England with career-best figures of 6 for 19 at Cape Town, and today he was again at his irresistible best. Kenya slumped from 105 for 3 to 133 all out, and Mark Vermeulen and Andy Blignaut romped to victory in just 16 overs - despite a brief interruption for rain. Kenya won the toss and decided to bat, but made a shaky start, losing three early wickets for 23 runs. Steve Tikolo and Maurice Odumbe, however, regrouped well, and had added 82 in 85 balls for the fourth wicket before the rot set in. For the second match in a row, Tikolo was run out when well set (105 for 4), and after Hitesh Modi had been caught behind for a duck (106 for 5), Odumbe (48) steered a catch to Alistair Campbell at slip. The tail subsided meekly, with nobody else reaching double figures, and though Campbell fell early in the run chase, Blignaut and Vermeulen cruised past the total for a 2-0 series win.
