Gareth Batty
Wisden CricInfo staff - December 13, 2002
Wisden overview
Sometimes a change can do you good. Gareth Batty's career was going nowhere as he languished the 2nd XI at Yorkshire and then Surrey, but after just three first-class matches in five seasons, a move to Worcestershire in 2002 kickstarted things. An offspinning allrounder with a shrewder cricket brain than his rascally ginger features might suggest, Batty was so impressive for his new county that he won a place in the England Academy squad. And when Jeremy Snape broke his thumb, he was drafted in to make his England debut in the VB Series in 2002-03.
