Recently you gave a list of the first batsmen to 1000, 2000 runs etc. What is the corresponding list for bowlers taking 100 wickets etc? asks Santosh Gupte The first man to take 100 wickets in Tests was Johnny Briggs, the Lancashire and England slow left-armer. He reached 100 in the first innings of the fourth Test at Sydney in 1894-95. He beat Charlie "Terror" Turner of Australia to the mark by three days – he reached three figures late in the same game. Clarrie Grimmett, Australia's New Zealand-born legspinner, was the first to 200 in 1935-36. First to 300 was Fred Trueman of England in 1964, and Richard Hadlee of New Zealand was first to 400, in 1989-90. Courtney Walsh took his 500th Test wicket for West Indies when he had Jacques Kallis of South Africa adjudged lbw at Port-of-Spain in 2000-01.
