Flushed royals Wisden CricInfo staff - December 3, 2002
I've been asked what I think is a trick quiz question: "Who took a royal hat-trick – dismissing three kings with successive balls?" asks Andy Catford It's not a trick, although it wasn't a first-class match either. The bowler was King George VI, when he was Prince Albert, and on the private ground at Windsor Castle he once dismissed his grandfather King Edward VII, his father (later George V), and his brother (later Edward VIII) with consecutive balls. The Wisden Almanack mentioned the feat in George VI's obituary in the 1953 edition, adding that he thus proved himself "the best Royal cricketer since Frederick, Prince of Wales, in 1751".
