England name ODI squad
Wisden CricInfo staff - December 2, 2002

Steve Harmison and Robert Key have been included in England's one-day squad for the VB Series against Australia and Sri Lanka, after impressing the selectors during England's disappointing Ashes campaign. Also included for the first time is Steve HarmisonKabir Ali, the Worcestershire fast bowler, who has been promoted from England's Academy squad in Adelaide.

England have been forced into a rethink for the tournament, which starts at Sydney on December 13. Injuries have affected key players such as Darren Gough and Simon Jones, while Matthew Hoggard has been dropped after struggling for form in the Test series. Gough has been replaced by James Kirtley, but Andrew Flintoff has been selected despite his slow recovery from a mid-year hernia operation.

Chris Silverwood, who damaged ankle ligaments in the third Test at Perth, will fly home in the next few days after being ruled out of the remaining two Tests at Melbourne and Sydney. Those members of the Test squad not included in the one-day party will remain in Perth to continue work before the Ashes series resumes at the MCG on Boxing Day.

England squad Nasser Hussain (capt), Kabir Ali, Ian Blackwell, Andrew Caddick, Paul Collingwood, Andrew Flintoff, Steve Harmison, Ronnie Irani, Robert Key, James Kirtley, Nick Knight, Owais Shah, Jeremy Snape, Alec Stewart, Marcus Trescothick, Craig White.
