Jacob Oram could be entitled to wonder what the fuss is all about regarding Test cricket.

Making his debut, the Central Districts captain could reflect at stumps on the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar as his maiden Test wicket, an innings return of two for 31 from 15 overs and a superb catch at gully to end the Indian innings.

"I knew if I could bowl tight, I'm not a big swing bowler, and I knew if I could hit the seam the pitch was helping us so it was a matter of getting it in the right areas and asking questions," he said.

The ball that claimed Tendulkar nipped back into the illustrious batsman who didn't play a shot and he was out, leg before wicket.

"I didn't think I was bowling wide. He was leaving me and I felt that just nipping away you can't leave forever and he might just want to have a go at one, think it was there to drive and it's not so I wasn't unhappy with the two or three overs beforehand."

Oram said it had been difficult bowling in the gusty conditions. Sometimes it was good to run into a consistent breeze but on other occasions he had to drive in low with his quads working to get to the wicket.

"It was tough on occasions and a couple of times in mid-jump in the air it blows you over," he said.

He said he thought his catch to dismiss Zaheer Khan surprised him because he thought the ball was coming straight to him but when it ballooned over his head he thought he would give it a go, although he didn't give himself a chance of getting it.

"When it hit the ground and rolled out of my palm I thought 'Oh no, another has gone down' but it was nice to hold onto it and it was my first catch in my first game," he said.

Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming was delighted with what Daryl Tuffey was able to achieve in removing danger man Virender Sehwag in his first over.

The New Zealanders were aware of how Sehwag could get momentum going in the innings and to pick him up so early was invaluable.

Fleming praised Tuffey for the way he consistently manages to get quickly onto a good length and maintain his accuracy.
