  • 7th ODI: New Zealand v India at Hamilton

  • The People's XI

The five wise men of Indian cricket are the real selectors; more often than not their selection choices come under scrutiny. Indian cricket has always had to live with the unwritten quota-raj, and being the biggest democracy in the world, the people of India have a right to cast their vote for their choice of the Indian team. And that team is by all means - of the people, by the people and for the people. We call it The People's XI

India won again! This time at Auckland, they got better of New Zealand by one wicket. India almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with the middle and lower order caving in under pressure. With the ODI series well in favour of New Zealand at 4-2, both the sides will be looking forward to finishing the series on a winning note at Hamilton on 14th January.

Interestingly, you the people chose The People's XI for the sixth ODI at Auckland. Remarkable as it might sound, The People's XI was almost close to the India XI that took to the field at Auckland, with Sanjay Bangar edging out Harbhajan Singh. Sourav Ganguly got 73% votes and occupied the eighth position in The People's XI. As luck would have it Dinesh Mongia failed to make it into The People's XI - and even was left out of the India XI. Anil Kumble, Parthiv Patel and Rakesh Patel also failed to win enough votes to force their way into The People's XI.

Given the shaky performance in the sixth ODI, there is a good enough chance that someone like Mohd Kaif might get a strong message from the people. Here is your opportunity to make your voice heard - select your personal India XI for the final ODI to be played at Hamilton.
