Sehwag hundred enlivens last day Wisden CricInfo staff - August 30, 2002
Close Indians 445 for 7 dec and 182 for 3 (Sehwag 104, Das 52) drew with Derbyshire 358 (Khan 91, Stubbings 66, Hewson 66, Nehra 4-85, Kumble 3-25) India's tour match with Derbyshire drifted to a predictable draw, but there was still time for Virender Sehwag to strike a blistering 104 off just 97 balls, albeit against a weakened Derbyshire attack. A draw was always likely once Derbyshire decided to bat on rather than try and contrive a run-chase with the Indians. That left little other than batting practice for both sides. Derbyshire opener Rawait Khan, 77 not out overnight, fell nine runs short of his hundred, becoming one of Ashish Nehra four victims. Nehra, dropped from India's third Test innings victory over England, did what he could to make a case for inclusion for The Oval Test with 4 for 85. Anil Kumble ticked over with 3 for 25 from just 12 overs. Sehwag used the afternoon to his advantage, cracking 14 fours and four sixes in his hundred. Shiv Sunder Das chipped in with an 83-ball 52 including ten boundaries as the match petered out.
