Pakistan wobble but win Wisden CricInfo staff - August 28, 2002
Close Pakistan 134 for 6 (33.3 overs) beat Kenya 133 (30.3 overs: Abdul Razzaq 4-35, Wasim Akram 3-30) by four wickets What should have been a stroll in the park for Pakistan briefly threatened to become an embarrassment before they recovered their composure to beat Kenya in the opening match of the triangular series in Nairobi. The game had been following a predictable route when Pakistan won the toss and skittled out Kenya for 133. The all-seam attack proved far too experienced for the Kenyans, and only a spirited stand of 71 for the fifth wicket between Kennedy Obuya (36) and Hitesh Modi (34) ensured that Kenya were not completely humiliated. Abdul Razzaq and Wasim Akram exploited the overcast and damp conditions to the full. Chasing a modest target, Pakistan paid for some lazy strokeplay and at 77 for 5 and 97 for 6 a shock was on the cards. But Inzamam-ul-Haq, batting at No. 7, and Rashid Latif restored order with an unbeaten seventh-wicket stand of 37.
Teams Pakistan 1 Saeed Anwar, 2 Imran Nazir, 3 Shahid Afridi, 4 Inzamam-ul-Haq, 5 Younis Khan, 6 Abdul Razzaq, 7 Azhar Mahmood, 8 Rashid Latif (wk), 9 Wasim Akram, 10 Waqar Younis (capt), 11 Shoaib Akhtar.
