All round the wicket Wisden CricInfo staff - August 10, 2002
Michael Vaughan's 197 was his third century of the summer and his fourth in all - but none have been made with such conviction and class as this. As our graph shows, Vaughan was at his most productive off the back foot. He scored runs all round the wicket, but none more than the 49 he rifled through midwicket. Vaughan was most severe on Sourav Ganguly, lacing him for 19 off 16 balls. It was also Vaughan's highest first-class score, the highest by an Englishman against India on this ground, and the highest by an England opener since India were here 12 years ago - and Graham Gooch smashed that 333 at Lord's.
