A compromise at last
Wisden CricInfo staff - August 8, 2002
ICC refuses to confirm it officially, but the deal is out. The Indian cricketers had already done their bit by agreeing to comply with the controversial ambush clause, and now ICC, in a belated display of reason, have agreed to drop the even more contentious imaging clause which would allowed the official sponsors of Champions Trophy and World Cup to use match pictures for tournament related promotions. Despite all the tough posturing, a compromise was always on the cards and it is a surprise that it too so long for the administrators, the sole perpetrators of this needless crisis, to sit across the table with the players, whose grievance and outrage was just. But beware, this might not yet be end of it. We are yet to hear what the sponsors think of this compromise.Sambit Bal
