'I enjoyed every minute'
Wisden CricInfo staff - August 7, 2002

Welcome to our free page showing Kapil Dev's winning speech at last month's Wisden Indian Cricketer of the Century Awards in both video and audio.

After having the award presented to him by special guest Sir Viv Richards, Kapil Dev embraced his compatriots and competitors Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar, and then took up his position to address the crowd.

Kapil was keen to stress he wouldn't have been standing there if it wasn't for his fellow players - "legends of their country", and cricketers he played both with and against.

There were no Gwyneth Paltrow-style histrionics from Kapil, who impressively kept the traditional award-ceremony thank-yous brief, only including his wife, mother and friends. He then gave a special mention to "our little legend" Sachin Tendulkar, who he hoped would one day receive similar recognition for his achievements.

Finally, Kapil said he hoped he had entertained those who followed him as a player and that the new generation of Indian cricketers should "keep playing their heart out".
