Srinath excluded from one-day probables
Wisden CricInfo staff - August 2, 2002

Javagal Srinath has been excluded from the Indian list of 20 probables for next month's ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka. All 15 members of the squad who played in the NatWest Series find a place. The five others included among the probables are Parthiv Patel, Sanjay Bangar – both of whom are currently with the Test squad in England – left-arm spinner Murali Kartik, seamer L Balaji and opener JP Yadav. Kartik's inclusion was entirely expected – he is arguably India's best left-arm spinner at the moment, and had played a one-dayer on India's tour to the West Indies. Balaji was part of India's A team to South Africa and Sri Lanka, while Yadav is another in India's bid to find the elusive allrounder – a batting average of nearly 44 in 70 first-class matches coupled with a bowling average of less than 30 suggests potential.

The squad of 14 will be announced on August 12.

The probables Sourav Ganguly (capt), Virender Sehwag, JP Yadav, Dinesh Mongia, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid (wk), Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif, VVS Laxman, Parthiv Patel (wk), Sanjay Bangar, Ajay Ratra (wk), Ajit Agarkar, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Murali Kartik, Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan, Tinu Yohannan, L Balaji.
