Brian Lara to play against Durham Durham CCC Media Release - 1 August 2002
Lashings have announced that Brian Lara will play in the squad that faces Durham at the Riverside next week. Lara, one of the most exciting players in the world, will hold fond memories of playing against Durham; when he played for Warwickshire he scored 501 not out. Lara, described as "the best stroke-maker in the world", holds the world record for the highest Test and first-class score, 375 and 501 respectively. The former West Indies Captain, with 190 one-day caps and 80 test caps, made his test debut against Pakistan at Lahore in the 3rd test in 1990/91. Tickets for Durham v Lashings World XI on Wednesday 7 August are still available by calling the Ticket Hotline on 0191 387 1717. Adults £10 and U18s £5 (in advance). Durham Chairman, Bill Midgley, is delighted that Lara will be playing in the match. He said: "We are delighted Brian is taking his place in such as prestigious line-up. This is a unique occasion for the people of the North east to see exciting cricketers in action."
