Adams awarded Benefit for 2003 Sussex CCC Media Release - 1 August 2002
Chris Adams has been awarded a Benefit for 2003 by Sussex County Cricket Club in honour of his fifteen years' service to first-class cricket and his five years as Captain of Sussex. Chris made his debut for Derbyshire in 1988 and was awarded his County cap in 1992. He moved to Sussex in 1998 to take on the challenge of captaining a side. He led the side to victory in Sunday League Division II in 1999 and Sussex were Championship Division II winners in 2001. Chris was delighted with the decision but was keen to emphasise his focus on the team: "I'm both honoured and privileged to be awarded a benefit. I've loved my time at Sussex and have never regretted moving, and I look forward to playing with Sussex for many years to come, I certainly aim to end my cricketing days here at Hove. My ambitions for the Club, maintaining our Division One status and ultimately taking the Championship title, are very much my priority and I can assure all our supporters that these ambitions can be realised." Commenting on the announcement, Nigel Russell, Chief Executive said: " Since arriving at Sussex in 1998, Chris Adams has had a huge impact on the Club as a personality, as a cricketer and as our Captain. Whilst with us, he has realised a dream to play at international level and he remains hungry to lead Sussex in winning the Championship, an ambition shared by us all. Chris has been a great servant to this Club and he thoroughly deserves our full support in his forthcoming Benefit year." © Sussex CCC
