Warne reaches out-of-court settlement Wisden CricInfo staff - April 30, 2002
Shane Warne has reached an out-of-court settlement with Australia's Herald Sun newspaper, after false allegations of match-fixing were printed in a front page article. Under the banner headline "Match Fix", the newspaper had alleged on January 8, 1999, that Warne had admitted taking money for a cricket match that was fixed. The case had been due to be heard in the Supreme Court, but was withdrawn after the Herald Sun retracted its allegations and printed an apology. The apology concluded: "The Herald Sun accepts that this assertion was incorrect and unreservedly withdraws it and apologises to Shane Warne for the hurt and upset caused by the article." The details of the settlement remain confidential.
