He's young, he's quick, and, according to Sri Lanka's bowling coach, Rumesh Ratnayake, he has the ability to challenge the likes of Shoaib Akhtar and Brett Lee as the fastest bowler in the world. Ishara Amerasinghe bowls with a strong-shouldered, slinging action a la Jeff Thomson, and has earned many plaudits, though as yet no Test caps. But he was selected for the early-season tour of England in 2002, and may well get his opportunity in some seamer-friendly conditions. Andrew Miller
