The highest successful run-chase
Wisden CricInfo staff - April 6, 2002

  • Australia's 330 for 7 was the highest successful run-chase in one-day history. The previous best was 316 for 4, by Australia against Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore in 1998-99, and 316 for 7, by India against Pakistan at Dhaka in 1997-98.
  • Australia's total was also the highest one-day total at Port Elizabeth, surplanting ... South Africa's 326 for 3 in the first innings. Before today, the highest total on the ground was 281 for 6, by Australia in 1993-94.

  • South Africa's previous-highest total against Australia was 310 for 6 at Bloemfontein in 1996-97.

  • England's 320 for 8 at Edgbaston in 1980 was the previous-best by any side against Australia. In those days, matches were 55 overs a side, so the highest 50-over total against Australia was 315 for 8 at Lahore in 1998-99, when Australia scored 316 to win by six wickets.

  • Graeme Smith, playing in his third match, scored his first one-day fifty, and took his maiden international wicket, Darren Lehmann, stumped for 91.

  • Ricky Ponting and Darren Lehmann added 183 for the fourth wicket, Australia's second-highest partnership in ODIs abroad. Steve Waugh and Michael Bevan added 189 for the fourth wicket at Centurion in 1996-97.
